An uncomfortable dogma: Mary's perpetual virginity
Main Article Content
Abstract
The dogma of Mary’s perpetual virginity has not been formally defined by the Magisterium of the Church but belongs to the core of the faith revealed and transmitted uninterruptedly by Tradition. Like all dogmas, this one has also had its detractors from the beginning, because it is easier and more in accordance with reason to follow the natural paths of conception and birth of human beings. But since here we find the extraordinary birth of the Son of God conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Virgin Mary, it is necessary to give an account from faith of the foundation and theological and spiritual content of this dogma. That is what this paper is all about.
