Abstract

This year is the 120th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir N. Lossky (1903-1958), a Russian Orthodox theologian exiled to France, which is one of the greatest contemporary thinkers of the Eastern Church. In this article we offer his biography, marked by his bibliography, as the first gives reason for the second. We thus enter into the figure of this man of constrasts (or synthesis) —Russian and French, from the East and from the West, faithful to the Church and furious critic, rational and affective—, who dedicated his whole life to studying the fathers of the Church of the Greco-Byzantine tradition and the master Eckhart, as well as the medieval authors, but also the philosophers of his time, making apophaticism the red thread of his theology.
