The Mystery of God in Bernhard Welte's Thought: From the Phenomenology of Religion to Existential Experience

Abstract
Revisiting the thinking of a philosopher of religion such as Bernhard Welte after almost fifty years can be a source of inspiration not only in terms of historiography, but also in a strongly theoretical sense. The question about the mystery of God opens up the possibility of an encounter with humanity immersed in an increasingly technological society in which the idea of God seems superfluous. It is precisely these considerations that open Welte’s reflection, who believes that technical-scientific thinking, if taken to the extreme, is inadequate to offer meaningful answers to those profound questions that dwell in the human heart. The era in which he wrote was going into what is now a deeply pervasive reality, and, in an almost prophetic manner, Welte announces a void, an absence which, if read properly, becomes a revelation, offering man a God who always comes to meet him.
