The primacy of love in a trinitarian theology inspired by Thomas Aquinas'Treatise on the Trinity

Abstract
The present article argues for the primacy of love in shaping a Trinitarian theology. To this end, it draws inspiration from Thomistic insights, which emphasize that Trinitarian love, and not intelligence, is the foundation of all divine and human reality. For Thomas, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are love in its fullness, and that love manifests itself as procession, relationship, and mission, extending to man and the world. The understanding of God is not achieved only through understanding, but through a prayerful and experiential experience of love. The Trinity, which is perfect communion, is reflected in human relationships, especially in mercy, the highest form of charity. Thus, living trinitarily implies loving, serving, and transforming the world, remaining in the Love of the Father, through the Son, and in the Holy Spirit.
