Abstract

Animals are the kingdom of living beings to which we humans belong as a relatively recent species. Zoology in its various specialties has changed the perception of animals. Since the 20th century, ethology has provided access to complex animal behavior, while ecology has made us perceive the network of interrelationships between animals and the rest of the biosphere. There is today a greater awareness of both the closeness and remoteness between animals and Homo sapiens. They are different others, but, at the same time, especially in those that are evolutionarily close, they are almost an extension of our human-animal being. It will be interesting here to highlight some aspects of Christian Trinitarian theology that can be fruitful for thinking about the animal condition. In particular, reference will be made to the Trinitarian reflex condition of animals, as well as the situation of extinction of species and, with it, the disappearance of features of the Trinitarian God.
